Carvers Corner
(or Gary’s Gossip Column)

The 28th Annual July Show was another wonderful event. Many folks commented on the great works on display. Bruce Henn of Troy, OH was our judge. John Clark won 1st and 2nd Best of Show and Roger Strautman got 3rd Best of Show. If I can find the list I’ll let you know how more of our entrants fared.

Get your carving ready for the Caricature Carvers of America Competition held in Converse at the EWCC. Competition will be held on August 18th so be ready.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds. Thanks again to all who have been helping us with getting these birds cut out and carved.  We are getting closer to our goal this year so any help would be appreciated.

We can use some Live Auction items for our December Auction. If you have any carvings or carving items to donate bring them to the Club. Yes, I know it’s early but we sold everything we had at the July Auction.

I spent four days at the Buckeye Woodcarvers Roundup at Poor John’s Campground in Fletcher, OH. We had a ball even though it was in the mid 90’s every day. This is an event you need to get on your Calendar for next year.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December.

Your Ol’ carvin’ buddy,

Sunshine Corner

If you know about a club member who needs a get well card or a sympathy card please let us know? Many of our folks live away and without your help we may miss the chance to send a card.

“I don’t think there is any thrill that can go through
the human heart like that felt by the artist as he or she
sees some creation of the soul unfolding to completion.”
—Michael Keller

Michael Keller is a woodcrafter located in Chelan, Washington who favors aromatic woods such as Alaska Yellow Cedar, Desert Juniper, Port Orford Cedar, and old growth Western Red Cedar.

Michael’s work has a raw, natural feel to it. His wood sculptures are not overworked giving his pieces, particularly his walking sticks and canes, a very balanced energy, invoking a very native sensibility.
