The clubhouse has had a lot of activity over the last few weeks.   On March 15th, we had the first of our beginning woodcarving classes.   He had 8 students and we are hoping that they will all join our carving club.

This coming weekend (April 9th & 10th) our Ohio friends are hosting the Brukner Woodcarving & Art Show at the Miami County Fairgrounds in Troy, OH.    The Linda Sales Woodburning class is also this weekend in Converse.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds. Thanks again to all who have been helping us with getting these birds cut out and carved.  We are less than 1/10 of the way to our goal this year so any help would be appreciated.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December.

Board Meeting

We will hold our Board meeting on June 7, 2016 to conduct business.

We’ll meet at 5:30. All are welcome at our meetings.  Board members and officers, if you have any ideas for the meeting just e-mail me.

Wood Magick

Kingfisher WoodWorks LLC manufactures wooden weapons specific to the Japanese sword related martial arts – mainly swords and staffs used in the aiki martial arts and selected wooden swords of the old schools (koryu). They work from two facilities in Wilder, Vermont. While small orders for individuals make up their primary business, they also supply film industry art departments and property master shops including the bokken used in “The Last Samurai” starring Tom Cruise, props used in GI Joe Retaliation, and fighting sticks used in the Marvel/Netflix TV series Daredevil .

While practice weapons for developing martial skills are used in many cultures, none have attained the degree of effectiveness, refinement and reserved austerity as the Japanese bokken, the wooden sword of the samurai. Unlike so many historical relics, not only did it attain a completely independent status as a weapon in its own right, it is still widely used by martial artists today. Similarly, the straight jo staff with its simple versatility, remains as relevent now as it did four hundred years ago. Since 1986, Kingfisher WoodWorks has produced these and other traditional wooden weapons including shoto, tanto, hanbo, yawara, suburito and also provides related accessories including sword stands and cases.
