Carvers Corner
(or Gary’s Gossip Column)

I got 1st in our monthly contest followed closely by Ben Cash and 3rd was Moe McCowan. Wooden bowls with the lid was the subject.

Don’t forget the Ornament Carve and Trick or Treat on Saturday, October 31st. Bring food, club will have soup.

Shelley Graves will have a Basket Class and we will have an Open Carve on November 7th so be ready. Class starts at 9:00 and we’ll have a carry-in.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds. Thanks to all who have been helping us with getting these birds cut out and carved.  .

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December.

Clevenger’s have finished our windows for this year. We hope to get the 12 remaining windows done next year. I know they will help keep our heating and cooling costs down. If possible we will try to get the front windows redone too and maybe a new high efficient furnace.

From the Kitchen of Donna Anderson

For the Bars:
½ cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
For the Glaze:
½ cup confectioner’s sugar
1 ½ tablespoons milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8-x-8-inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Spray with nonstick spray. Set aside.
In the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together butter and sugar, about 1-2 minutes. Add salt, eggs, and vanilla and continue stirring until fully incorporated. Add flour and baking powder and mix until just combined. Reserve ½ cup of dough. Press remaining dough into the prepared baking pan. Top with cherry pie filling. Drop remaining batter (1/2 cup) in small pieces over the cherry filling.
Place in the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and place pan on a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled prepare the glaze. Whisk together confectioners’ sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over the bars. Cut into 12 squares and serve.

Turning the Corner

So Dave went camping one more time, so Jim was OHO! We should both be back now till we head for the warmth of S. Texas. Jim also just did a craft show at New Life Church in Kokomo, again by himself.  Come on upstairs if you haven’t see what we have so far. Look at what kind of library we have too!

We have a web page ( where you can go to look at old newsletters just in case you lose your very important copy. The recipe is there with the calendar and even Gary’s Gossip Column. We do have a club Facebook Page too.  (Eastern Woodland Carvers Club Inc.)
