Carvers Corner
(Or Gary’s Gossip Column)

I hope you all are planning to set up at the July Carving Show or at least coming to the Banquet. If you want to come to the Banquet and Auction see Mildred to get your name on the list. The Big Dipper is catering it again this year. The auction helps us pay our insurance and utilities.

The tuck pointing on the South side is done as are the windows on the same side and the doors too.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds. Thanks to all who have been helping us with getting these birds cut out and carved.   It is really appreciated.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December so now they are late.

Your Ol’ carvin’ buddy,
Gary

Turning the Corner

Thought I’d just remind that there is no end to what could be carved from an item that was turned on the lathe first! So should a person get some idea in mind that they would like to try and it required turning first.  Give your idea to Jim or Dave and see about us helping you get started. July being a busy time for us all, Jim will be by himself at the show unless someone would like to keep him company. There would not need to be much more than that. Dave will be off on a trip out west the he himself did not arrange.

So a bowl, a platter or any number of things with even a slight carved decoration may be within our means to help! Give us your ideas.

New Bathroom

Tom Kallner and Bob Alexander have been working on a new bathroom on the second floor. They are getting close to finishing up and it will be a great help for us when we have multiple guests upstairs.

ZUCCHINI PIE

Ingredients:

2 cups cooked, mashed zucchini
1 egg
1 can sweeten condensed milk (like Eagle Brand)
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup flour
2 Tbls butter

Directions:

Mix ingredients in bowl, pour into unbaked pie shell, sprinkle with cinnamon.  Bake at 350 for approx. 1 hour.

So easy and so good

NOTE: I like to drain off the zucchini after it is cooked using cheese cloth.

My apologies to all on the mix up on the date for the C.C.A. Seminar. It is now correct.

The tuck pointing will start next week or when the weather gets strait.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds. Thanks to all who have been helping us with getting these birds carved.   It is really appreciated.

We have started work on a new Bathroom on the second floor. Lowe’s made the delivery Saturday, May 2nd about 2:00. All the helpers we had had afternoon plans so we hired young guys to haul it upstairs.

The Plymouth Show date is on hold for now until we get word.

Tammy and Beth have returned from the sunny south..

Don’t forget to get your July Show application sent in.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December so now they are late..

Suzi is home and improving. She takes a walk thru the house every two hours. Dr. Bob is at Wellbrook in Kokomo on the corner of Boulevard and Dixon. He seems to be getting stronger.

Turning the Corner

Hi There S’me Dave Johnson, Finally !

First time both Jim and I were there at the same time in a good while. We were glad to get to see the Hurst’s back in town.

Both of us did accomplish a little on projects of our own and will most Tuesday evenings now. It is possible to have 4 people turning at the same time, so if any time one feels like spending a little time with us upstairs just say the word.

I know the July show will be here before we know it but I for one will be way out at Seattle/Fairbanks/Denali/Anchorage/Vancouver at the time. So Jim will be doing the show by himself. Anyone want to help him at that time he no doubt would welcome the company. You would not need turning experience.

Carving and turning are closely related. Like turn something, and CARVE on that. Limited only to an imagination.

~~~~ Dave
