Carvers Corner
(Or Gary’s Gossip Column)

Gary, Millie and Suzi are down finishing out their vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama so I (Steve Fowler) am doing the Newsletter for this February.

We are still continuing to work on Comfort Birds.   Dr. Bob Clements brought in some basswood that Bob Alexander used for additional cut-outs.  We did get another package from Dick Belcher last week with more cut-outs plus he had about 26 carved birds using some unique wood.  Thanks to all who have been helping us with getting these birds carved.   It is really appreciated.

It has been pretty slow around the club over the past few weeks.   Weather has been one of the factors but we also had a few of our ‘Snow Birds’ that took flight to Texas, Florida and Alabama.   I expect attendance to start picking up a little in the next few weeks.

We are looking forward to spring already so we can start our brick work and windows.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December so now they are late.

Your NEW carvin’ buddy,

Board Meeting

We will hold our Board meeting on March 3, 2015 to conduct business, and elect a Chairman.

We’ll meet at 5:30. All are welcome at our meetings.  Board members bring your notebooks.

A Note from the EWCC

It is with much sadness that we heard about the passing of Jim O’Harra on January 26th.   Jim had lots of friends here at the EWCC and it was always good to have him for our July show and he also came over for a few of the CCA Seminars.   Jim was also always a fixture at the Dayton Artistry In Wood.    This past July Jim won our very first Tom Brown Annual Caricature Carving Award and he also won the raffle for the   Tom Brown Memorial Knife by Rich Smithson with a Harold Enlow carved Block.  Everyone was cheering when Jim’s name was called.   Jim will be missed by many.
