Carver’s Corner (May)

Gary’s Gossip Column

 

Joe Schumacher’s carving class was a ball. Five students had a ball as well as Joe. All the projects looked great. Everyone at the class is now a member of the club.

The Troy Show was great this year also. John Clark, Bob & Jayne Baber and Mildred & I sat in the same isle with George Chaney and Deb Simonis. We enjoyed the show and got to visit with Bruce, Charlie, Mulie, Roger, Rich & Don. Most of these folks will be at our July show.

Our Club Librarian Steve Fowler has a note for all. “I’m going to perform an audit of the club’s books and magazines in June 2014. Please return any club books and magazines you may have before the June audit date.”

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December.

Our Recipe Corner (May)

Terrific Tuna Roll-Ups ReciMeal

Ingredients:

· 1/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise

· 4 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard

· 2 cans (about 6 1/4 ounces each) chunk tuna packed in water, drained

· 1/2 cup coarsely chopped canned water chestnuts, drained

· 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions

· 1/3 cup canned, chopped roasted red pepper

· 4 (8-inch) flour tortillas

· 2 to 3 cups shredded romaine lettuce

Preparation:

1. Blend mayonnaise and mustard in a mixing bowl.

2. Stir in tuna, water chestnuts, green onions and roasted red peppers.

3. Divide tuna mixture among tortillas, spreading to within 1 inch of the edges.

4. Cover each tortilla with about 1/2 cup lettuce.

5. Roll each up tightly like a jellyroll.

6. Cut in half diagonally and serve immediately.

Servings: 4

The 38th ANNUAL DUNELAND WOODCARVERS SHOW

The 38th ANNUAL DUNELAND WOODCARVERS SHOW will be held April 5-6, 2014.

The show will be held at Woodland Park, in the Oakwood Grand Hall.

The park is located at 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage, Indiana, 46368.

 

 

The Judges for the show will be;

Gary Gracey – Fruit Belt Carvers

Sharon Teska – Council Oaks Carvers

Gary Freeman – Eastern Woodland Carvers

If possible plan on attending. The Woodcraft Shop will be there from Bettendorf, Iowa with all your carving needs.

I’m sure you have had a hard time with this winter’s nasty weather. I for one am more than ready for spring.

We need some people to sign up for Joe Schumacher’s carving class so we don’t have to cancel. At present there are only three on the list.

BACON & CREAM CHEESE DEVILED EGGS
.
1 dozen hard boiled eggs
1/2 lb cooked bacon
1 8 oz pkg soft cream cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 Tbls yellow prepared mustard
Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)
1/2 Tbls Worcestershire sauce
salt & pepper to taste

Prepare eggs, cool and peel. Cut lengthwise, put yokes in mixing bowl and mash. Add softened cream cheese, mayo, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Blend till smooth with mixer or food processor then add finely chopped bacon, mix well. Add to egg halves sprinkle with paprika chill overnight (if you can wait that long) Enjoy!!!
