Gary’s Gossip Column

Happy New Year all my carving friends. I hope all went well over the Holidays.

The 2nd Annual Christmas in Converse was a lot of fun and we enjoyed about 25 – 30 town folks coming in to chat, drink Hot Chocolate and Coffee. Randy & Pat Hurst, Chuck Leming and the Freeman’s were the only club members here.

December Show entries were down in numbers but the quality was just wonderful. The Carry-in was great as usual as most of you know we have some great cooks here at The EWCC.

The chess set was won by yours truly, Gary Freeman.

This year’s Auction went very well and we do have many items left for a clean-up auction. We may hold the clean-up Auction on the January Club Meeting night.

Election of Officers and Board Members on December 10th kept everyone on board.

At the Board of Directors meeting we appointed Tom Kallner to replace Tom Brown.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member. Always due in December.

A Note from the Chairman

The year of 2013 has come and gone much too quickly. Along with its brevity it left us with some lasting holes in our lives. For the first time since our Carving Club was formed in 1988 we must continue without our friend and brother Tommy Brown. To say he will be missed is an understatement. We all must go on with nothing but good thoughts, knowing Tom would want it that way.

We will present the First Annual Tom Brown Caricature Carver Award at our July Show to the carving we feel would have been Tom’s pick. A plaque and $50.00 will be presented at the banquet. Tom Kallner volunteered to sponsor the award but some other people have offered to help with the cost.

From the Kitchen of Donna Anderson

2 cups cooked noodles (spirals are nice)

2 1/2 cup ham, diced

1 can cream of mushroom soup (I used the reduced fat soup)

1/2 can milk

8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup frozen peas, thawed

1 Tbsp. butter, melted

1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs

1/2 tsp. dry parsley

Place noodles and ham in a sprayed (or lightly greased) 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. In mixing bowl, stir together soup, milk, cheese, and peas. Pour over noodles. Stir together butter, parsley, and breadcrumbs. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake, uncovered for 30 minutes at 350°F until hot and bubbly. For me, leave the peas out……
