2013 CCA Caricature Carving Seminar
Converse, Indiana,

August 23, 24, and 25, 2013

Three day seminar, one day with each of three CCA instructors. Instructors for 2013 are: Sandy Smith, Floyd Rhadigan and Gary Falin.

The seminar fee is $165 with a $75 deposit due at time of enrollment. The balance will be due June 1, 2013. The seminar fee includes lunch. Most students find motel lodging in nearby Kokomo, IN. Rainbow Christian Camp has cottages available plus a few campsites.

Blanks – there is an additional charge for blanks. Since this varies with instructors we do not include it in the seminar fee.

As of January 1, 2013, there are a few slots remaining in the 2013 seminar. We suggest you check with seminar coordinator Bob Travis for current status. Bob splits his time between Montana and California so e-mail is the best way to communicate. Four spots are available at this time.

Waiting list: The seminar usually fills by late December or January. However, every year we have several cancellations. It is not unusual to work through a waiting list of 6 to 10 people. Please contact Bob Travis to be on the waiting list.

Turning the Corner (June 2013)

Posted in Turning the Corner on May 31, 2013 by ewcc

Hello at EWCC, Us turners are still not kept busy with people wanting to get some different “Tools” in their hands and start a new carving method. And the simplest thing would be to do a pen. Ask the “Pres”, he is so far the only one who has and has even made pens for sale. Right now Dave is on the mend from Carotid Artery surgery but will be back soon. Jim is plenty willing to do an eve. of Inst. and send ya home with your first turning project but some other project as well. Again if there is some tool ya need to give a new home and feel we can use we can put it to use most likely.

Here is a knife set that will be raffled off at the Converse July Show, all proceeds will go to the Kokomo Humane Society. If anyone is interested in tickets they can be purchased with a check or money order made out to Holli Smithson or Helvie Knives. We will fill out the tickets with your name and phone number and put them in the tub, they are dual tickets and we will mail the other half back to you. You need not be present to win. The tickets are $1 for 1 or $5 for 6 tickets there is no limit on how many you can purchase. Each knife in the set is hand signed by the carver and a few added some artwork along with their signature. The other side is woodburned with their signature and logo, which for this special set I went ahead and painted the logos. Feel free to spread this around the more interest we get the more we all can help the Humane Society. These are truely a one of kind set…..PRICELESS

Well as some know Jim and Dave both showed up again. But there was too much talking to do to do anything else. Jim also was anxious to show the results of his winter and the segmented Bowls he made.

We are ready and willing to help anyone get started on some turning project of their choice. But Pens are about the simplest thing to start off with. Just let us know if you have been thinking of trying some turning project. The space upstairs is reasonably cleaned up and just waiting to be messed up.

That 9 x 9 foot room could easily be out grown if we start getting some interest. Let us know what ya have in mind.

We do have wood pen blanks to choose from AND pen kits and the necessary tools to use. ~~~~Dave
