In preparation for our upcoming class, I have put together the following:

-Class project is “Carving and Painting A White-Breasted Nuthatch”

-(3) day power carving class. Student should have either a dremel or optima or foredom or etc..

– A dust collector is recommended. Dick Belcher said that we could borrow a few from him if needed.

-I will supply the pattern, tupelo blank, glass eyes and the cast feet.

-If the student has a mount or habitat to mount the bird on, they should bring it along. Otherwise, we will make up something with found wood.

-Tool bits required are: either a kutzall or burr for rough cutting, a medium sized sanding drum (150 to 220 grit), a medium sized ruby or diamond carver (tear or tree shaped) and a small conical shaped texturing stone (white or blue).

-A small piece of #220 sandpaper.

-A wood burner is needed for detailing the feathers.

-A stylus for burnishing.

-We will paint with acrylic colors; gesso, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, cerulean blue, burnt sienna, payne’s grey, cad yellow-light and white.

-Students will need a coarse bristle gesso brush, a number 6 or smaller round brush and a very small round detailing brush.

-The fee is $150 per student.

-A minimum of (7) is desired, but no more than (10) students in the class.

It will take three full days to finish our projects. In my previous classes, we’ve all been able to finish by the end of the third day with a mounted bird.

Our Recipe Corner (April 2013)

Pineapple Angel Food Delight
from the Kitchen of
Steve Prescott

Ingredients:

1 Box Angel Food Cake Mix
1 20 oz. Can Crushed Pineapple in its own juice

Directions: 1 box of Angel Food Cake mix (just the contents of the box, no need to follow the directions on the box), and combine it with a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple in its own juice. (No need to use a mixer, just stir it by hand) When you do this, something magical happens. The mixture starts to froth and it turns into an amazingly airy, fluffy bowl of deliciousness right before your eyes. Once it’s all mixed up, simply pour it into a 9 x 13 pan and bake it at 350 for 30 minutes.

Carvers Corner (Or Gary’s gossip Column)

Welcome to an old fashion Indiana Spring. Not a lot of fun unless you like SNOW. Seems to be warming up here at the end of March.

We have an Open Carve and Basket Class on April 13 opening at 9 a.m. for all. The basket ladies will have the normal carry-in and the carvers will pay to eat. Hope to see you there.

Butch Clark will be here on April 19, 20 & 21 for a Nuthatch Class. This class is $150.00 including the bird, eyes and feet. You’ll need a limb or something for a base.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member and are payable in December. If you need to know if you are up to date just ask at the club or e-mail me.

We need donations for our July Auction.
