Carver’s Corner (January 2013)

Carver’s Corner
(Or Gary’s gossip Column)

Happy New Year y’all. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

If you were at the Annual December Show and Carry-in you know how much fun we had. If not in attendance you missed a really great time. The food was just great and I am not the only one who said that.

The Auction was wonderful with many much wanted items. Tommy Brown started off as the auctioneer and when he needed a break, none other than Patsy Dolan stepped in and took the microphone. After a bit of a slow start I wondered if it was working. Then all of a sudden she popped out a joke and I knew she was on the road to success. Not only were many of our local crew here and the Ohio Crew minus the Cooke’s. We had a visit from Larry & Carol Yudis, for the first time in years for the December Show.

Our clean-up Auction on Tuesday was great also. Pat sold everything we had left.

Dues are $10.00 + $1.00 per each family member and are payable in December.

9 a.m. – ??:??

Bring a side dish or pay to eat, let us know.

For you carvers the standard Saturday rate of $5.00
will be in affect unless we come up with a seminar.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and will have a Happy New Year!

Well we have a basket class schedule for Jan 26th, I hope this is enough time to put on your calendar!

I have some of you down for the peanut basket with a wrought iron handle.

We have had a rough December.

My mom had heart surgery which went good but it took her a week to come out of the anesthesia.

So Monday makes 3wks she has been in the hospital. She is at a rehab now so hopefully we are on the road to recovery!

Hope to see you soon!

I am planning on weaving on New Year’s day if anyone wants to come and weave, let me know!

If you have books or tapes checked out please bring them back so we can inventory our library.

Another wonderful show at the Artistry in Wood in Dayton, OH.

Turning the Corner (December 2012)

Turning the Corner
by Dave Johnson

Well here we are into cold weather. And true Upstairs at the club IS COLD also. BUT if someone wanted to get next to a lath. The turning room CAN be heated. Thing is Dave is about to “fly the coop” earlier this year. BUT Jim will be around the club until the first part Of January. Look for him to have something in the December Show. Expect at least one of our Pens in the monthly business meeting drawing. Our first one went to Pat Hurst. These pens use a common pen refill available at most any store if or when needed.

It is possible to request a matching pen and Pencil set and out of more than just wood i.e.; corian/antler/some shell casings.

Dave is saying, “stay warm and well” over the winter. Get out in the parking lots and do “donuts” !! One needs the skill derived.

Re: December Show

We will be making a Wooden Quilt to give away to carvers and wood-burners for entries in the show. The Woodcraft Shop of Bettendorf, IA has furnishing us with 30 4x4x1/2 blocks. We will carve them and John Clark and Bob Baber will put it together. For every carving you enter in December you get one ticket and some lucky person will take it home.
